Our Mission and Backstory

Hi! We are Sam Roberts and Garrett Corum, founders of Medallion Mission. We are two childhood friends who share a similar passion for all things history, the great outdoors, and a good old-fashioned treasure hunt! This venture was a dream that began in May of 2024 and one that was inspired by Byron Priess’ The Secret. We would be remiss not to mention that the National Treasure movies also had an influence. Work quickly began to carefully plan and piece together what would become a thrilling treasure hunt set to take place in Downtown Knoxville, TN. Work continued throughout the summer and into the fall of 2024. By December of 2024 everything had fallen into place to allow us to officially launch and begin ticket sales in January of 2025.

However, everything changed on December 19th, 2024, when my son, Hudson Roberts, was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. Though through this tragedy I found purpose—and for that, I am grateful. You see, I had been praying for about a year for God to reveal his plan and purpose for my life. He tells us that we each have unique gifts and talents and we are to use them to serve others. I will admit that I grew frustrated as time went on because my purpose wasn’t clear and I wanted clarity. His timing is always better though. During the weeks that were spent in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at East TN Children’s Hospital, God revealed my purpose. My mission moving forward was to help other families and children that passed through those same doors. I contacted Garrett and explained my desire to adjust our original plan. I wanted to incorporate a charitable component and make this a yearly event. Without hesitation, Garrett was immediately on board.

Meet Hudson Roberts, my son, this year’s inaugural Medallion Mission sponsor. 60% of the revenue from ticket sales will be used for our journey ahead as radiation and chemo have already begun and will continue until this fall. Additionally, all proceeds from t-shirt sales will also go toward helping Hudson. If you wish to only donate, you can do that too. 100% of your donation will go to Hudson.

It is our hope that this year’s event is wildly successful and grows year after year. Our dream for next year’s event, and the ones to follow, is to use the money from ticket and shirt sales to make a difference in other families’ lives. We can’t wait for the opportunity to be able to return some of the blessings that my family has already received from so many others.

Thank you to our donors who have donated to the reward fund for this year’s event. These donations will help to help to increase awareness about our long-term vision and goals as a higher reward will generate more interest.
